2 nabbed with Rs 1 cr demonetized notes

AHMEDABAD: In a late night operation a team from police station arrested two people near Tapovan circle —Shyam Nimawat, a driver from , and from Himmatnagar — with a khaki-coloured bag containing demonetized currency of Rs 1 crore — mainly in denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.
This was confirmed by DCP zone-2 RF Sanghada. The special branch of city police was tipped off around the afternoon about two people who were negotiating with some businessmen at a spot between Chandkheda and Motera areas. Subsequently a watch was kept.

These fresh arrests come barely within a month of the Chandkheda police arresting four persons on June 16 with Rs 99.99 lakh worth of demonetized currency from Chadkheda area. There were Rs 12,800 in currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, 3,599 scrapped notes of Rs 1,000 denomination. On November 8, 2016, the Union government had announced the demonetization of all Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknote, but there have been many cases where scrapped notes were recovered. The police is interrogating the two arrested persons for more details.
