10 killed, 14 Pak fishermen injured in two accidents

Rajkot: Ten persons were killed and 14 Pakistani fishermen, who were being taken to Wagah border in a police van, got injured in two other accidents in Kutch on early Sunday morning at 2am and 9am respectively.
Four persons were killed when the mini-truck they were travelling in rammed into the rear of a truck near Adesar checkpost at 2am. The mini-truck was also rammed from the rear by a police van in which 14 Pakistani fishermen were being taken to Wagah border in Punjab.

Those killed in the accident have been identified as Moti Rabari (30), Sattabhai Rabari (65) and Vasta Rabari (45), all residents of Bhachau taluka villages. The identity of the fourth victim is yet to be ascertained.

“There were 35 passengers in the mini-truck who had received injuries. They were taken to different hospitals in Adesar, Rapar, Samakhiyali, Radhanpur and Mehsana. The 14 Pakistani fishermen, who were travelling in the police van being taken to Wagah border, received minor injuries. The fishermen were released from the Bhuj joint interrogation centre on Sunday and were supposed to be handed over to Pakistani authorities at Wagah border on Monday,” said Adesar police station sub-inspector B J Parmar.

The Pakistani fishermen were shifted to another vehicle in which they continued their journey to Wagah border.

The second accident was reported on Bhuj-Nakhatrana highway near Jesalpar village in which six persons were killed when the chhakado rickshaw they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

“The accident occurred when the truck, while negotiating a curve, came face to face with the rickshaw coming from the opposite direction and rammed it. The impact of the collision was so massive that the rickshaw overturned and the truck crushed it under its wheels,” said an official from Mankuwa police station.

Police identified the deceased as Rishipal Rajput (27), Anokhelal Rajput (15), Jamnasinh Rajput (34), Kantilal Patel (35), Mustaq Chaki (32) and Riaz Chaki (16), all residents of Khadia area in Mankuwa. The accident left three persons injured who were shifted to Bhuj Hospital.
