NAGPUR: Controversial advocate Satish , his brother Pradeep and their accomplices were on Tuesday slapped with charges of fraud and cheating among others for their alleged role in grabbing around one-and-a-half acres land at Babulkheda on Besa Road worth more than Rs5 crore.
Pradeep is a former cop who has been dismissed from the police department.
The decision to book Uke came shortly after he filed a revision petition before the sessions court last week difficult disposal of a case he had filed against chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The court had issued notice to Fadnavis in the case.
The cheating and forgery case against Uke brothers and others have been registered at Ajni police station. A civil litigation is also underway into the dispute, sources said.
Satish was rounded up by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the crime branch following a fresh complaint filed by the secretary and plot holders of Aishwaryee Sahakari Gruh Nirman Sansthan before the addl CP (crime) in April this year.
He was initially rounded up for quizzing but was later arrested. Satish was earlier convicted for contempt of court by high court. He will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
Police said the housing co-operative society, formed in 1984, had initially purchased one-and-a-half acres from Vitthal Dhawale and his three sisters in 1990. The initial plan was to create 116 plots in the layout. Later, the housing society purchased three more plots. In all, the society purchased around 4.75 acres from Dhawale till 1994.
It also sold around 78 plots to purchasers. In 1995, Shobharani Nalode was made the secretary of the society after her husband Rajendra passed away.
It was after 2001 that Satish’s brother Pradeep and his accomplices started refusing entry of the plot holders to access their property purchased through the co-operative society. Pradeep and his accomplices had claimed to have purchased one-and-a-half acres from one Chandrashekhar Mate, who had power of attorney from owner of the land.
Forcing the earlier purchasers to remain out of their lands, Pradeep and his accomplices also sold 20 plots to fresh buyers. Police said Pradeep and his accomplices had prepared fake sale deed on the basis of the questionable power of attorney in possession of Mate.
Investigating officer senior PI Lalit Vartikar of EOW said the second sale deed prepared by Uke brothers had the signature of only Satish. “Apart from Satish, the roles of his brother Shekhar, Pradeep, his wife Madhavi, Mate and their accomplices are under scanner. They may be rounded up soon. In the FIR, we have so far named Satish, Pradeep and Mate,” he said.
Police have already recorded statements of a number of people related to the case. Shobarani and three plot holders had earlier approached Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe land grabbing cases under crime branch, for intervention. The case was referred to Ajni police station after SIT was disbanded. Ajni police refused to intervene in the case citing it to be of civil nature.
